I love New Order. But that's beside the point I'm about to bring up. This song, "Everything's Gone Green," sounds like a techno prototype. It was released in 1981 and it surprises me that when the history of techno is talked about, New Order doesn't really come up as an influence. I firmly believe that certain songs they wrote, specifically in the early 80's, should be included regularly in what are agreed to be the raw materials that were instrumental in developing the genre known as techno. What's more, there is no doubt in my mind that the cultivators of this musical genre at some point were avid listeners of New Order, either as a group or via individual songs, such as "Blue Monday (1983)."
